The Fontes da Cunha family never intended to make wine. In 1994, they bought 1.5 hectares of the Quinto do Mondego in Portugal to use for a vacation home and a weekend getaway destination. However, since the property was located in the heart of Portugal’s wine country, they thought they’d plant a few vines and see what would become of them. We sure are glad they did! A few years and a few extra vines later they were bottling their first wine, Munda Red, and it was an instant hit! The family has now mastered the art of viticulture with a handful of labels including today’s special: Mondeco Dao Vinho Tinto 2010.
Produced from hand-picked grapes, this red blend pours a beautiful ruby red into your glass with elegant aromas of raspberries, strawberries, fresh mint and a hint of smoke . On the palate it is big, bold, and rich but is exceedingly balanced which makes it the perfect accompaniment to steaks, ribs, or any cool evening and campfires.
