“Lagers are boring!”
Well, not exactly. Lagers are bottom-fermenting beers, meaning the yeast ferments at cooler temperatures for a longer period of time. Contrary to what some people may tell you, they’re not easy beers to make, and encompass a wide range of styles including Pilsners, Doppelbocks, and Rauchbiers. One of the most famous in the craft beer world however, is the Marzen or as it’s commonly known, Oktoberfest.
Last year, in contradiction with their own name, Ale Asylummade their first lager. Oktillion Oktoberfest was born, and it followed the German tradition of Marzen. Its light amber color alluded to it’s notes of caramel and toffee, with a slight breadiness. It was an easy drinker that was a departure from the unapologetically hoppy beers they’ve become known for.
