When I mention the state of Iowa, what comes to mind? Corn, probably. Perhaps the Hawkeyes, and maybe even the term “flyover country.”
If you ask a beer drinker that question however, Decorah, Iowa’s Toppling Goliath Brewing Co. might be the first thing to come up. Founded in 2009, Toppling Goliath’s rise has been a meteoric one. Created out of a desire for making beers they wanted to drink, and a lack of those beers in their area, founder Clark Lewey and brewmaster Mike Saboe have been able to capture the attention of Iowa, along with the world’s geekiest of beer geeks.
Today we’re featuring a few of Toppling Goliath’s beers for Thirsty Thursday, here’s the rundown:
Golden Nugget: Brewed with Golden Promise malt and Nugget hops, this IPA features plenty of pine and floral notes, with a balancing bitterness that makes it really easy to drink.
Dorothy’s Lager: Brewed as a tribute to Clark’s grandmother, this easy drinking lager is the beer you drink when you don’t want to think. Clean and classic.
Rover Truck: At 5.7% ABV, it’s nice to have a stout that isn’t also a meal. Creamy and slightly roasty, this oatmeal stout is the pairing for winter meals like pot roast and chili.
And that’s not all. Paige from Toppling Goliath will be here from 4-6 to pour samples of the Thirsty Thursday beers, and some not-Thirsty Thursday beers as well. Stop by and get some of that Iowa goodness!
