Wooden boxes make for great decorations. When they come full of delicious wine, well, that’s just an added bonus! This week’s Thirsty Thursday, the Chateau La Croix Du Duc Bordeaux 2016, comes in a wooden box, is delicious, and most importantly, is an amazing value!
Sitting on Bordeaux’s right bank, you will find Chateau La Croix du Duc. It is a remarkable 37 acre estate near Lussac St. Emilion in the heart of Bordeaux. Like many of the highly esteemed estates in Bordeaux, they can attribute most of their success to single-family care, with knowledge being passed down generation after generation. In this case, the estate has been in the hands of the same family for over 150 years! When that family is blessed with the weather they had during 2016 you know you are in for something special.
This blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc is fruit forward with aromas of blackberry and cherry. On the palate the terroir shines through with beautiful, earthy undertones. The round, lush quality of merlot is fully evident and the soft tannins on the finish make it perfect for enjoying immediately.
